SDR pre-calibration measurements

In the Cinema picture mode, the SDR pre-calibration measurements were pretty good, with dE2000 errors well below 5 for grayscale and color.

Measurements following a 22-point SDR grayscale calibration

After a full 22-point SDR grayscale calibration, the measurements were excellent, with an average dE2000 of only 0.34.

SDR color measurements

Even though I didn't perform a color calibration, the color measurements were quite good, with an average dE2000 of 1.37.

Results from the CalMan ColorChecker tool

The ColorChecker function in CalMan shows that the 88Z9 did quite well with a variety of colors, with an average dE2000 of 1.5 and a maximum dE2000 of 3.7.

SDR results post calibration

The SDR post-calibration view shows a very well-behaved display.

HDR grayscale results

I didn't calibrate the 88Z9's HDR mode, but I did measure it. Here we can see that, without compensating for OLED's luminance error at high brightness, the grayscale is increasingly deficient in blue with an overabundance of red. Adjusting for the luminance error, the grayscale is close to perfect. Notice that the EOTF and Luminance curves follow the targets very closely all the way up to the set's maximum luminance, where they sharply flatten out.

HDR saturation sweeps

The saturation sweeps in HDR reveals that the primary and secondary colors hit their targets at different saturation levels pretty well. If the luminance error is included in the calculations, the dEICtCp errors increase with brightness, as expected. Without considering the luminance error, things are much better.

Post-HDR-calibration view

Even though I didn't perform an HDR calibration, I shot the post-cal view anyway. Aside from the 5- and 10-percent brightness levels and a couple of colors, everything was close to perfect.
