Windows 10 will come to PCs and tablets in late July with the phone version coming later this summer.

The start menu is back with the next version of Windows which starts shipping July 29.

After a disappointing Windows 8, Microsoft is hoping Windows 10 will be a major improvement. expects that Windows 10 will be a major improvement.

For Microsoft it's important that the OS runs on tablets and smartphones as the overall PC market continues to contract. According to IDC worldwide PC shipments are expected to fall 6.2 percent in 2015, which marks the fourth consecutive year of decline. When Microsoft ended support for Windows XP the market saw stable shipments in mid 2014, but analysts don’t expect a surge in shipments for Windows 10.

The OS will see the return of the Start Menu as well as introduction of Cortana, Microsoft’s voice assistant. ,

Microsoft's the transition from tablet to PC and back is smoother in 2-in-1 devices with what’s called continuum. Windows phones with continuum can also be connected to a monitor, keyboard and mouse to make your phone operate like a PC.

Another new feature is the Xbox app which allows gamers to play Xbox One games on their Windows 10 PCs and tablets streamed directly from their console.
