App Store, Apple Music, iTunes, Apple TV, Beats 1 and other iCloud services were struggling for over 3 hours

On Tuesday morning, several of Apple’s iCloud services—including the App Store, Apple TV and Beats 1—went down for a number of users. The outages started before 7 a.m. Pacific time and went well until past 10. The technical issues affected users using the services on both desktop and mobile.

Apple quickly addressed the issue in its system status support page. After all the store services were back up and running around 10:30 a.m., Apple stated that the issues affected services tied to its iCloud service.

The struggle was real for all of Apple’s Store Services: the App Store, Apple Music, all the iTunes services, Apple TV, the iBookstore, the Mac App Store, and Radio.

The biggest complaint that these outages garnered on social media involved the Beats 1 outage shortly before Zane Lowe was set to announce the nominees for this year’s MTV Video Music Awards at 7 a.m. Not very promising for an experimental Internet radio station that boasts about being “always on.” And Taylor Swift fans were not having it.

Why this matters: This is not the first time Apple Music services have experienced technical issues during its primetime. Zane Lowe’s first broadcast on Beats 1 cut out a few times, and iCloud Music Library mismatched a number of users’ iTunes libraries when it was first integrated with Apple Music. 

Apple Music is still new—indeed, no one’s even paying for it yet—but with every mishap, listeners lose more confidence in Apple’s service as their reliable, daily source of streaming music.
