Rumor: Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge Plus will be big phones with different processors

Samsung may introduce two mega-sized phones this fall. One will allegedly use an Exynos processor, while the other will default back to Qualcomm.

It’s becoming increasingly difficult to ignore all the hearsay about Samsung’s next generation Galaxy Note, but the latest rumors from SamMobile at least offer a glimpse at what to expect.

SamMobile has heard that the Galaxy Note 5 will come equipped with a 5.7-inch Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels. It might also be powered by Samsung’s new Exynos 7422 processor, which will be the company’s first all-in-one chipset that combines a 64-bit oct-core processor with a GPU, RAM, storage, and Samsung’s own LTE chip.

Apparently, a Galaxy S6 Edge Plus—say that in one breath—is on its way, too. The phone will feature the same 5.7-inch Super AMOLED display as the Note 5, but will use a Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 processor instead. That’s the same chip used in the LG G4 and though it’s less prone to thermal throttling than the Snapdragon 810 we've seen in phones so far, it’s not as mighty. The S6 Edge Plus may also come equipped with a 5-megapixel front-facing camera, a 3,000mAh battery pack, and Android 5.1.1 Lollipop.

It’s also worth nothing that the Galaxy Note 5 and the Galaxy S6 Edge Plus might not come equipped with a removable battery pack or an expansion slot.

The story behind the story: Samsung’s on a roll; it expects to make a bunch of money this quarter, despite missing its projections for investors. The company hit it out of the park with the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge, so we’re curious to see what its phablet flagship will look like. Core Android fans who were disappointed in the lack of removable battery or expandable storage in the Galaxy S6 won't be thrilled to see yet more Samsung phones without these features, though.

We'll be at IFA this September with hopes that Samsung will announce both of these phones there, so stay tuned.
