OK, details are scant, but not so scant that we can't wring a blog post out of this.

It's 2 a.m. at a Denny's restaurant somewhere in Alberta, Canada. Who shows up to eat but legendary goth rocker Marilyn Manson, in Calgary to perform in front of a bunch of fans wearing black eyeliner and white face powder.

Accounts diverge at this point, but according to a TMZ exclusive, Manson was asked for his autograph by a couple of female patrons. He says he didn't call either of them "bitches," despite the claims of witnesses.

A male companion of the two women took umbrage at whatever Manson did or didn't say, and then went and punched the singer!

Poor form! Not to mention a crime.

Note to Manson: Dude, you need new security guys. They let some guy sucker-punch you. In a Denny's. In fact, they let you go into to a Denny's at 2 a.m.! Even the staff usually is drunk!

Extra weirdness: According to TMZ, Manson says his assailant "began screaming about blowing up Manson's next concert" and also "elbowed his makeup artist in the face."

Manson says he and his makeup artist will file charges with Alberta law enforcement.
