NYC cop stripped of badge and gun (phew!) after viral bullying tirade against Uber driver

A spittle-spewing New York City cop who apparently likes to use his power to berate, bully and mock citizens at least won't be able to shoot any after being stripped of his gun and badge.

The New York Post reports that Detective Patrick Cherry, who went nuts on an Uber driver over a totally insignificant incident on a Manhattan street, is being stripped of his gun and badge after the video of his tirade taken by the vehicle's backseat passenger went viral. You can see it in all its ugly glory below.

Cherry's a piece of work. We know, we know, you never know what's going on in someone's life, etc. But this guy appears to be a bottomless well of anger and abuse -- just who you want to be packing heat! His nasty, xenophobic diatribe against the Uber driver (who is not from the U.S.) was so long that he had to take an intermission.

And the video got so many views on YouTube (1.7 million and counting) that:

1) Police Commissioner William Bratton put Cherry on desk duty pending his transfer from the NYPD's Joint Terrorism Task Force, and

2) Psy now wants to do a video with Cherry.

At a press conference on Wednesday, Bratton said, "No good cop should watch that video without a wince. Because all good cops know that officer just made their jobs a little bit harder.”

That's 100% true. But a lot of cops still will support the guy. Here's the thing, cops who still will support the guy: Cherry isn't suited temperamentally for the job. Granted, we're just going off this one video, but we're willing to extrapolate. He's much more suited for the job of calling into sports radio talk shows at 2 a.m. to drunkenly berate the New York Knicks and Obama. He should just do that job.
